Summer inspiration: Josh Goot SS2011

– posted by Bernice

Summer is finally on its way, which means bare legs and open toes. I’ve actually spent the entire week in skirts (a first for this pant lover) and no collection can better describe my mood right now than Josh Goot’s Spring/Summer. The wide hips and cinched waists are instant love, but it’s the eccentric prints and mesh of bright colours that make these pieces unique. Pieces start at $400. I know, but a girl can dream right?

Toronto jewellery finds

– posted by Bernice

I recently ventured to Heidi Ho2 at Yonge & Eglinton on the hunt for a gift. I discovered this store a few years ago and always remembered it as the place with great jewellery.

One of my favourite lines they carry is Tashi, a brand based in Vancouver. The pieces are typically light and polished, constructed from sterling silver. While they have a mix of intricate designs, the pendant necklaces are my favourite. They are eye-catching yet basic enough to work with any outfit.

From top left: Peacock earrings $60, Feather necklace $60, Antler earrings $40, Love necklace $40

Of course, temptation got the best of me and I ended up grabbing a pair of earrings for myself in addition to the gift I came for.

Heart earrings $20

These heart earrings are by MoonRox, a Toronto-based company. Designer Monique Chan mixes new and vintage materials to handcraft unique accessories that are both trendy and timeless. Here are a few pieces pulled from their Etsy site.

Tassel earrings $55, Token bangle set $48

Trinket necklace $48, Token necklace $38

Both brands are available in store at Heidi Ho2 boutique.

Elle Sweden May 2011, DREAM OF SPRING

I love the fruit prints in Stella McCartney’s spring collection. Who knew lemons could be so flattering?

Zara Spring Collection

– posted by Bernice

When I walked into Zara a few days ago, I was instantly excited about the abundance of spring pieces on the racks. If you’re looking to mimic the colour blocking trend from the runways, this is a great place to start.

Some pieces that caught my eye:

I thought a white blazer with black lapels was the best thing ever
…until I laid eyes on this.

Bright stripes a la Prada spring 2011.

The answer to my shift dress prayers:

I love these pants!! But I’m a tad scared to wear green pants, to be honest. Maybe I’ll sum up the courage when the sun comes out and spring really hits.

Colourful shoes!

Arctic Glam: Lundström Collection Fall 2011

– posted by Bernice

The Lundström Collection show was filled with timeless pieces that looked like they’ve been around for years but worked so well on the current runway. These were true investment pieces sure to last you through many winters.

The key ideas were layering and warmth without sacrificing glamour. Several bodysuits came down the runway draped in fluffy coats and mini shawls. Each layer was more interesting than the last — the styling was brilliant and sold the separates beautifully.

Coats were made up of classic silhouettes and fabrics but modernized by hidden buttons and asymmetry. The best look was a dress with an uneven hem and matching jacket with taupe piping.

Long gloves in black, deep purple, and fuscia were perfect complements to both dark and bright pieces. Loose, slip-on dresses appeared long and cozy.

Eveningwear carried the same glamourous edge as the day pieces. Black tulle was manipulated and shaped to emphasize sophistication over fantasy.

I want everything in this collection! (Sans the fur pieces.) This is the epitomy of comfortable luxury.

What’s all the fuss about this hat?

– posted by Bernice

Everyone and their mother has been bashing Princess Beatrice’s choice of hat for the royal wedding. The Philip Treacy design features a giant beige bow atop a ring. Personally, I love it. It’s modern and whimsical and looked fantastic paired with the Valentino Couture. A tad matchy-matchy, but her overall look was one of my favourites (though it was slim pickings at this event…).

The hat will be auctioned on eBay with proceeds going to UNICEF and Children in Crisis.

My Secret to Long & Strong Nails: NAILTEK

– posted by Christine

I have been getting gel nails for many, many years now and it hit me earlier this year that this was a complete waste of money (not to mention bad for my nails), so I was in search for a solution to long and NATURAL nails. I think I have finally found my answer and that is NailTek! Since having my gel nails removed, my nails were quite weak, translucent and soft. I chose to use the Intense Therapy II formulation. I bought my set from The Shopping Channel, which includes the base coat/ridge filler and top clear coat, as well as a crystal file — all for under $40. This is a very good deal considering I used to spend about $50-$70 every 2-4 weeks to have my gel nails refilled.

My Nails before using NailTek, right after the gel nails have been removed.

I am now completely in love and dependent on this product! It allows my nails to stay long the natural way. It’s also super easy to use. Just apply a coat of the ridge filler foundation followed by the top coat. You can apply the top coat as many times as you like to protect your nails and keep them strong. You can also apply your favorite nail polish on top of the foundation, then use the top coat again to seal your nails in.

My Nails after using the Nailtek system for about 3 months! After applying a coat of polish some people thought my real nails were gels.

A little product overview:
